Investor Frequently Asked Questions

Who are your clients?

BHA’s clients range from some of the most recognizable names in the alternatives industry to emerging managers using new and esoteric strategies. Twenty percent of our clients are emerging managers, 60 percent have assets of $1-$5 billion, and 20 percent have assets over $5 billion. BHA’s current client base represents over 130 unique funds and our managers are located in more than 12 countries around the world. Our strength lies in our managers’ broad diversity of styles, approaches, and fund sizes. Every investor seeks to balance its portfolio in a unique way, and BHA tries to offer access to the widest possible range of options. (These include but are not limited to hedge funds, private equity and real estate funds, and related funds of funds, as well as structured products with underlying alternatives.)

Are you a third-party marketing firm?

No, BHA is not a third-party marketing firm. BHA does not market or sell funds to investors and it does not collect commissions or success fees. BHA is an unbiased, neutral party focused on researching investor mandates to improve the efficiency of the allocation process.

How do you get paid?

BHA is paid a flat, annual subscription fee by client fund managers for our services. These services include research and data on institutional and private investors, and investment trends in the alternatives industry. Fund manager clients pay BHA to receive access to investor mandates. These mandates help managers target their marketing efforts to investors that are currently searching for specific fund strategies.

I have all the contacts I need. How could you possibly help me?

With an estimated 20,000+ fund managers in the alternative investment industry, operating in everything from long/short U.S. equity to frontier market private equity and art investment strategies, no one can keep up with the pace of innovation. Many of the best opportunities in alternatives don’t last long, and the best managers can close new funds so quickly you may never even know they opened. BHA can help you supplement your current network with ours, and we can cover twice the ground together.

Do you provide investment advice or due diligence services?

BHA does not perform any advisory services, nor do we provide any due diligence services. BHA can act as a filter to help investors contact managers that fit investors’ search criteria, but we never offer any advice or guidance on how to invest. BHA does not offer or sell securities, nor do we provide investment advice to investors. The investor is contacted directly by the fund manger without BHA’s involvement. The ultimate purpose of BHA’s service is to help investors hear from managers that fit investors’ investment profiles, and to help investors avoid hearing from managers whose products do not match investors’ interests.

How do I establish my firm’s alternatives mandate profile?

The simplest way to establish your firm’s profile is to call one of our analysts. He or she will be happy to speak with you in detail about your firm’s alternatives interests. Please call 508.786.0480.
