When a fund manager signs up for BHA’s service, a dedicated analyst is assigned to the manager's account. This provides the fund manager with an outsourced marketing support person to augment and complement its existing sales efforts. Successful BHA clients work with their analysts as an extension of their marketing team and typically maintain regular contact.
Analysts are responsible for increasing clients’ pipelines of qualified investor mandates in several ways. For example:
Lead Generation
- Customized leads are provided to clients each week by their dedicated analysts. These leads are investors that the BHA research team has spoken to within the past 24 hours. By asking a series of questions and qualifying a number of investment parameters, analysts provide clients with targeted mandates that exactly match their funds with regard to type of vehicle, strategy, and pedigree among several other factors. These mandates are from active investors.
- In the initial 12-week period, analysts target potential investor matches through our 35,000 investor network database for clients’ particular funds.
- Analysts make about 600 calls on behalf of client funds with a hit rate of 4 percent—twice the industry average. Analysts deliver about 25-35 customized mandates to each fund (typically 2 per week).
- BHA mandates are fresh, accurate, and timely, which means BHA’s client managers are notified of an investment mandate before any other service in the industry.
Marketing/Business Trip Support
- To complement clients’ marketing efforts, BHA urges clients to share their traveling schedules with their dedicated research analysts. When clients plan a business trip, their analysts can help maximize the opportunities for potential meetings. Dedicated analysts can create lists of investors that are located in the regions to which clients are traveling. By notifying analysts about trips, the analysts can begin to target additional investors located within and around the geographic regions specified. If clients are on location, they can rely on BHA to help find meetings as well as conduct on-the-fly fact checking on potential investors.
Special Projects
- Custom Investor Research. BHA’s dedicated analysts can help clients cover a specific investor category or geographic region. For example, clients can request their analysts to put together a report of the top 100 European pension plans investing in hedge funds, including the correct contact person and the current investment interests.
- Investor Qualifying and Updating. On behalf of clients, BHA’s analysts can call and qualify leads that managers want vetted, such as investor leads from a conference or a road trip. Clients also can have analysts update internal contact databases.
Market Insight
- BHA clients can leverage analysts to gain insight on what investors are currently looking for in the market. Analysts can provide input on strategy, sector, and geographic interest as well as other information pertaining to the industry. Clients can gain access to this insight by speaking with their analysts on regularly scheduled calls, or by reading our weekly newsletter and quarterly reports.
